T/N: This chapter contains several instances of telepathic communication. These will be distinguished by the use of italics.
Destroying a mountain isnât particularly hard, but moving a mountainâand doing so without creating an endless string of problemsâtakes a different level of skill.
When itâs not just one mountain but an entire range, the difficulty rises even more.
“Iâm glad I came well-prepared,” Vandalieu sighed, leaning on his staff. “If I were doing this alone, Iâd have probably given up halfway through out of sheer loneliness and exhaustion.”
As he said this, Sam, who was carrying him on his cargo bed, retorted telephathically, “I suppose waiting three days to notify the soldiers in the fortress, the adventurers along the border, and Duke Sauronâs army counts as preparation. But didnât you actually finish all your preparations in about an hour, young master?“
“It just means that I was able to make thorough preparations in an hour. Besides, Sam, when I say “If it was just me, I would have been exhausted halfway through,” I’m factoring in the part where I get to ride comfortably here.”
Vandalieuâs mana reserves were vastânearly limitless. With his [Constant Mana Recovery] skill, his mana was constantly replenished even as he used it. Yet even his mana wasnât truly infinite. Moving an entire mountain range transformed into golems, laying down strong and thick bedrock over the ground, and carefully adjusting the underground water veins was no easy feat.
And trying to fly on his own, handling the extermination of monsters bursting from the shifting mountain range to keep them from scattering everywhereâwell, that was a lonely, miserable task heâd rather not even think about.
Could he manage it? Possibly. But he had no intention of trying.
“Haha, itâs an honor to be of service, young master!” Sam laughed. “But if anyone unknowing were to catch sight of us now, theyâd surely misunderstand!“
Around Vandalieu, Tarea, Kachia, Privel, Gizania, Myuze, and Yuuma were attending to him with somewhat languid expressions.
Indeed, if someone who didn’t know the situation were to see this, it would look like the aftermath of an intimate encounter or like he was being attended to by beautiful women. The fact that all of them are wearing clothes that expose their shoulders only strengthens this impression.
“There’s no way anyone who doesn’t know the situation would see inside Sam’s cargo bed,” Mari, also known as [Metamor] and [Black Maria], murmured, leaning close. “So feel free to let us attend to you as much as you like. Right, Van?”
“Indeed,” Gufadgarn, the “Evil God of Labyrinths, added, standing watch behind Vandalieu. “There is nothing for the great Vandalieu to worry about.”
“We’re really not doing anything indecent, though.”, said Vandalieu.
“That’s right, Van-sama.” Tarea assured softly, her voice tinged with affection. She whispered into Vandalieuâs ear as she embraced him, “So… please suck more of me, and let me eat more of you.”
“Tarea… if I suck any more blood, you’ll collapse from anemia,” he said gently. “Also, no matter how much of my body you eat, it takes some time for your strength and blood to recover.”
Despite appearances, Vandalieu was only drinking their blood to activate his [Blood Rule] skill, which restored his mana and boosted his abilities. And he was only sharing parts of himself with them to aid in their own recovery.
What he was offering them was an improved version of his blood potion, crafted from his own blood. It combined a high concentration of [Demon Kingâs Blood] with medicinal herbs and mushrooms grown through his [Plant Binding Technique]âa skill that had evolved into [Demon World Binding Technique]âand had been formed into egg shapes using the [Demon Kingâs Oviduct]. For now, he was calling them “Blood Eggs”.
The Blood Eggs looked like dark red spheres encased in a jelly-like substance, reminiscent of a large frogâs egg. The taste was like an intense, concentrated blood potionâoverwhelming for the unaccustomed. It was also a deadly poison, potent enough to cause rapid mutations if consumed by anyone who hadnât been guided by Vandalieu.
But for those already guided, the Blood Eggs were nothing more than powerful nutritional supplements and healing elixirs. It took a bit of time, though, not only to heal wounds but also to stimulate blood production and restore lost strength.
Incidentally, Vandalieu himself was nibbling on Blood Eggs and fragments of the Demon Kingâs remnants. This wasnât just for sustenance; it was to activate his skills, [Ability Value Enhancement: Cannibalism] and [Self-Regeneration: Cannibalism], though it might have been something akin to autophagyâeating parts of oneself to fuel the body.
“Then take my blood!” Privel declared. “Iâm probably one of the biggest ones here, so I should still have plenty left!”
“IâIâm not losing to her in volume!” Gizania added, a determined look on her face. “And I have more than enough vitality!”
Both of them stepped forward to offer themselves. As a Scylla Origin, Privelâs lower half was a mass of octopus tentacles crowned with dragon heads, while Gizaniaâs lower body was that of a spider. Though they appeared as women from the waist up, their full forms indeed gave them the mass of several ordinary women combined.
“I accounted for that and drank only as much blood as wouldnât harm you,” Vandalieu replied gently. “A larger volume just means you need more blood to stay healthy.”
Of course, he had allowed for a generous margin beyond the bare minimum, making sure none of them felt faint or weak. He was only pretending to have drained them to the limit out of concern for their well-being.
“Right,” Myuze chimed in with a sigh. “I still feel a bit woozy, so Iâll rest here quietly.”
“Yeah, I think weâre all a bit worn out,” Kachia agreed, leaning against Vandalieu from the other side.
“If itâs really this difficult, should we ask Bellmond and the others to switch with us?” Mari suggested, glancing over at Gufadgarn.
“For the great Vandalieu, I can open a [Transfer Gate] at once,” Gufadgarn offered.
“No, no, donât worry about us!” Myuze and Kachia quickly perked up, shaking their heads in unison, suddenly full of renewed energy.
Of course, the reason for their presence was for Vandalieu to feed from them. If that were the only goal, Bellmondâwith her unique skill [Offering]âEleanora, with her natural regenerative abilities, and Darcia, who was Vidaâs incarnation, would be better suited for it. Originally, they were supposed to be the ones accompanying him in Samâs cargo bed.
But Tarea had raised an objection.
“Itâs not fair that only Bellmond and the others get to do this! Van should drink from us sometimes, too,” sheâd argued, saying it was only right. Besides, Darcia and the others had tasks to handle on the ground with Kanakoâs group.
And when Darcia had easily conceded, saying, “Thatâs true. Iâll leave Van in your care,” it was decided. Tarea and the others had taken their place.
“Iâm happy to be here, really,” Vandalieu admitted, “but doesnât Tarea need to oversee the Ghouls? And Privelâdonât you have the Scylla to manage?”
Tarea, after all, was a former Ghoul chief, and Privel was the daughter of a Scylla elder. Gizania and Yuuma, too, were princesses in their own right within their people.
“Itâs fine, Van-sama,” Tarea reassured him. “Hardly anyone in human society even knows who I am. And with Zadiris and Basdia as visible leaders of the Ghouls, theyâll serve as our representatives just fine.”
Tarea usually plays an important role, such as helping to create artifacts like transformation equipment. That’s why it’s dangerous to appeal her existence in human society, so Tarea rarely stands on Kanako’s stage in human society.
Therefore, she thought that Zadiris and Basdia, who are known in human society unlike her, would be sufficient as symbols and organizers of the Ghouls as Vida’s new race.
“Same here,” Kachia added with a sly grin. “Besides, itâs not like I have such a high position. And I want Van to âkissâ me, too.”
“Kachia, technically Iâm just biting you, not kissing,” Vandalieu murmured, his tone playful. “Although⊠I wonât argue too strongly.”
“And you, Privel?” he asked.
“Me?” Privelâs eyes sparkled. “Momâs handling things back with the Scylla⊠and she said itâs more important for me to be close to you.”
Privelâs mother, Periveil, now the Scylla chief in Duke Sauronâs territory, had deemed this duty a priority. Assisting Vandalieu in moving the mountain range was, after all, a significant responsibility.
“My country isnât part of this alliance,” Yuuma, who is the only daughter of the Kijin king, added, “so Iâm free to be here, right?”
“Same for me,” Gizania, who is a princess of Zanalpadna, agreed.
“Me too,” Myuze, who is not a princess but has now become the most skilled among the Empusa, chimed in. “Besides, according to one theory, ninjas shouldn’t stand out. Also, I’m not a princess.”
“Well, alright,” Vandalieu said, smiling. “But I wonât drink any more blood until youâve all had a chance to recover.”
As he spoke, Vandalieu placed a fragment of the Demon Kingâs arthropod remnant into his mouth and began to chew. The taste of his own flesh spread across his tongue⊠It still wasnât something he could call enjoyable.
(I still don’t understand why everyone wants to eat it. If it had effects as a potion or cream, that would be one thing, but this is really just remains. Well, I think it’s just because it’s a part of myself that I feel this way.)
He was fairly certain that was the reason. After all, heâd never heard of vampires surviving on their own blood.
“By the way, Van, donât you need to create more Demon King Familiars?” Mari asked, breaking into his thoughts.
“I think we have enough for now,” came the responseânot from Vandalieu himself, but from a Demon King Familiar. This particular Familiar was a massive, brain-only creation, lacking even a single arthropod limb.
It was a brain-type Familiar, designed to assist Vandalieu in controlling his magic. Inside its cerebrum were organs to keep it alive and orbs for mana generation. Despite being over two meters tallâan impossible size for a normal brain to support itselfâit was the [Brain of the Demon King], far tougher than any mere lump of flesh.
If it werenât for Samâs stable cargo bed, the brain Familiar would have needed to be encased in a shell, which would have drained additional mana. By connecting it to his main body, Vandalieu enhanced his processing power, effectively creating a supercomputer with linked brains instead of circuits.
And the brain wasnât the only Familiar heâd crafted. Dozens of visual aid Familiarsâone-meter-wide floating eyeballs with feathered wingsâflitted around Sam, surveying the landscape. They checked for escaped monsters, monitored any shifting or crumbling in the mountain range, and noted any sunken or raised patches in the ground.
These eyeballs werenât only circling Sam but were also scattered in clusters above the former Scylla self-governed territory, the designated location for the mountain range. Other groups floated over the rocky coast separating the northern Bahn Gaia continent from the sea, where the range would eventually be connected.
“Papa, can I eat?” came a voice from above.
This voice belonged to Bakunawa, whose Demon King Familiars were specifically crafted as his snacks, crucial in preventing him from gobbling up any critical Familiars. His favorite snacks, incidentally, were the ones with large eyeballs and brains. He enjoyed the way the eyeballs burst satisfyingly in his mouth and the creamy texture of the brains as they melted on his tongue.
“You can eat the Familiars meant for snacks,” Vandalieu said, handing one to him. “Here, eat this me, not that me.”
“But it would be great if you could eat some monsters too,” he added hopefully.
“Yeah, but the monsters here are weak, Papa,” Bakunawa replied, making a face. “Theyâre bland, no texture at all.”
Unlike the monsters of the demon continent or the Demon Kingâs continent, those of the Boundary Mountain Range seemed less suited to Bakunawaâs taste. There were weaker monsters in those regions as wellâstill more than a match for average adventurersâbut the high concentration of magic in the demon realms likely made them tastier and more satisfying.
While Bakunawa refused the local monsters, Pete was busily devouring and dispatching them. Though high-ranking monsters were rare here, Peteâs [Dragon God Devourer] skill more than sufficed to handle any sizable threats.
So why was Bakunawa here? Simply because he wanted to “help big sister.” Children often wished to assist their parents or older siblings, and Vandalieu had no doubt that Bakunawa had reached that stage of development. For a moment, he wondered about the mental strain the sight of Bakunawa might put on the soldiers stationed at the border fortresses. But after a second thought, he concluded, Surely itâll be fine if theyâre only watching from a distance.
Additionally, while Bakunawa wasnât visible to humans, the gods of Aldaâs faction had certainly taken note of his form and strength during the battle to free Botin. His own powerful defenses had also factored into the decision to bring him along. Meanwhile, Aradia, who was still unknown to the Alda faction and not yet battle-ready, stayed home with her mother, Diana.
“Gishaaaaa!” Pete roared.
Though Bakunawa had shifted his appetite from wild monsters to Demon King Familiars, Pete seemed eager to make up the difference. Now, as the newly ranked Divine Steel Thunder Centipede Netherworld Beast King, Pete stretched over 100 meters long, radiating an aura that was either divineâor perhaps ominous.
When Pete achieved the rank of Beast King, everyone except Pete himself was astonished. A “Beast King” was a demigod, originally a title for the mighty beasts created by Ganpaplio, the Beast God. The idea that a monster could reach this status through ranking up was a revelation that surprised even Luciliano, Gufadgarn, and Peria, the Goddess of Water and Knowledge.
At first, they considered he might not have truly become a Beast King and that the title was just part of his race name. But when Peteâs new [Subordinate Strengthening] skill began affecting ordinary centipedes as well as monsters, they concluded he really was now the “Beast King of Centipedes.”
They sought advice from Raphaz, the “Beast King of Birds” from the Demon Continent, on whether it was possible for a monster to become a Beast King. Raphazâs expression of disbelief spoke volumes; he had never heard of such a phenomenon.
According to Raphaz, it is possible for new Beast Kings to be born. However, this happens when the previous Beast King dies for some reason, and their child inherits the position to become the new Beast King.
So he had never dreamed that a Beast King of insects, which didn’t exist originally, would be born from a monster. He said that maybe it was just because he had been confined to the Demon Continent and didn’t know, but perhaps somewhere in this world, monsters could become Beast Kings, true giants, or dragons.
Raphaz said this while eyeing Vandalieu intently. Perhaps he reasoned that if a Dhampir could ascend to godhood while still alive and wrest [the Demon King’s fragments] from Guduranis, then surely a monster could evolve into a Beast King.
“Whatâs on your mind, Van-sama?” Tarea asked, noticing his thoughtful expression.
“Oh, I was just considering that we might see more companions ranking up to Beast King or dragon levels like Pete did,” Vandalieu replied. “Though I still donât really understand how a monster becomes a Beast King.”
“Indeed,” Gufadgarn said, nodding in agreement. “The great Vandalieu, who has crossed from another world, has set foot in this one and is performing extraordinary feats. Is it not natural that those who follow him should also achieve greatness?”
“I wonder if Pete might have become something akin to a Beast King,” Kachia mused, “like a Netherworld Beast King, rather than a true Beast King. People who drink Vandalieuâs blood often transform into Netherworld races*, after all.”
T/N: I originally referred to the races transformed by Vandalieuâs blood, body parts, or V-Cream as âAbyssal races.â However, after working on a later chapter, I realized that âNetherworld racesâ is a much better fit. It aligns more closely with the terminology used throughout the series, especially with race names. For consistencyâs sake, Iâve updated it hereâthank you for bearing with me as I refine the translation!
“âŠThatâs possible, I suppose,” Vandalieu replied, though his gaze grew distant, unable to find a strong counterargument.
“Does this mean Tadano could become the Beast King of Rats?” Yuuma asked.
T/N: Remember Tadano, the spy mouse Van found in Orbaume castle? His name means “average Joe” in Japanese. Oh, the irony! This little guy went from ordinary rodent to secret agent extraordinaire. Talk about a promotion! đđ”ïž.
“If thatâs the case, Iâd put my money on Marol and the others before Tadano,” Privel laughed. “Personally, Iâm rooting for my fellow tentacle buddies, Tama and Gyuoku.”
“Yamata and Rapiéçage might have a shot, too,” Myuze added thoughtfully.
One by one, they began speculating about who might be the next to gain a Beast King title.
“Master!”
Just then, a lone skull flew toward them, calling out to Vandalieu.
“Oh, Boneman! Whatâs wrong? Is there trouble on the ground?” Vandalieu asked, switching to telepathy.
“Juu! Things are going smoothly on the mountain, with fewer monsters than expected. But the soldiers and residents in the border fortresses and cities⊠theyâre behaving strangely. Darcia-sama and the others are doing their best to calm them down.”
T/N: Fun fact: Boneman, our skeletal friend, used to be a mouse. He still can’t quite shake off his rodent roots, punctuating his sentences with a hearty “Juu!” It’s the Japanese equivalent of a mouse squeak – because apparently, in Japan, mice don’t go “squeak,” they go “juu.” Who knew skeleton mice were bilingual?
It seemed that the people on the ground, upon witnessing the moving mountain range, Bakunawa, and Pete, were more unsettled than the monsters themselves.
“What do you mean by âacting strangelyâ?” Vandalieu asked.
“Yes! It seems they were crying out and begging the gods for mercy!” Boneman replied, sounding both puzzled and amused.
Apparently, they thought it was the end of the world.
(This might be bad. Should we stop the operation for now?)
Vandalieu thought this, but it seems people are already recovering from their panic.
“However, it seems that Vida, Botin, and Peria have issued divine messages, and some cities and fortresses have calmed down before Darcia-sama and the others arrived, so it may already be resolved,” Boneman explained.
Conveying a divine message required talented priests with exceptional abilities. But simply telling people to “calm down” was far easier, especially for the gods of Vidaâs faction. Once the messages reached them, the priests were able to use their usual influence to help the citizens relax.
“I feel a bit guilty,” Vandalieu admitted, “but if this ultimately keeps us out of a war with the Holy Nation of Amid, maybe weâll be forgiven for the panic?”
“Why the hesitation?” Kachia asked. “Isnât it better if we avoid war?”
“Kachia, no war means downsizing the military,” Vandalieu explained. “The budget cuts arenât exactly welcome news for the fortresses and cities along the border.”
The enemy countryâs presence was the reason fortresses had been built along the border in the first place. The soldiers stationed there, along with their families, relied on the income and purpose the threat provided. If the mountain range effectively severed their connection with the Holy Nation of Amid, those fortresses might become little more than financial burdens.
“Well, they might still serve as bases for adventurers to keep monsters from running wild,” Vandalieu speculated, “or as defense posts in case monsters from the Devilâs Nests do escape.”
“Come to think of it,” Privel added, “didnât this region receive support from the other duchies because it was considered the âfront lineâ against the Amid Empire? Wonât that support vanish, too?”
“Privel, we can make up for that with trade profits from our own country. And if thatâs not enough, Iâll cover the difference with my pocket money,” Vandalieu said reassuringly.
“âŠOr maybe we should just annex it at this point?” Elizabeth suggested with a smirk.
Privel points out the bleak future of the Sauron Duchy, but as long as Elizabeth, who is possessed by the powerful backing of Vandalieu, rules, it seems it will be forcibly brightened… Yes, Elizabeth hasn’t gained a backing, she’s been possessed. Because she’s possessed, Elizabeth can’t ask him to stop of her own will.

“Now then, Master, I have two things to report. First, I have ranked up and become a Rank 15 Skeleton Knight of the Netherworld Emperor God!” reported Boneman.
And the skeleton’s report confirmed Vandalieu’s earlier prediction.
Skeleton Knight of the Netherworld Emperor God. The name alone was strikingly different from previous skeleton races. It wasnât quite a demigod, but it seemed to border on something close.
“Judging from the race name, it seems to be a knight serving the Netherworld Emperor God,” Vandalieu said with great reluctance, “but that Netherworld Emperor God is… probably, most likely, presumably referring to me.”
Vandalieu didn’t want to admit that he was the Netherworld Emperor God if possible. However, the moment he was about to say, “I wonder who that Netherworld Emperor God is,” he imagined a future where the skeleton would wail, “Juooo! Master, do you think I would serve anyone but you!?” With a resigned sigh, he accepted it.
“Oh, thank you, Master!” Boneman exclaimed joyfully. “I was so anxiousâtruly anxiousâabout what I would do if you said you weren’t the Netherworld Emperor God!”
It seemed Vandalieuâs prediction was accurate.
“For Van-sama to acknowledge it himself… you’ve grown,” Tarea noted, smiling. “I thought you were still the same as before because your appearance hasn’t changed much.”
“Tarea, my lack of height is a racial thing. I plan on reaching over two meters in the next hundred or two hundred years.”
Incidentally, this “over two meters” goal was Vandalieuâs ideal, based on nothing but personal preference.
“So, whatâs the other thing you wanted to report?” he asked.
“Juu! Along the border, in the fortresses, fortress cities, and villages, people are starting to worship Master as a god!” Boneman announced.
“Eh, why?” Vandalieu replied, genuinely puzzled.
“Well… that’s to be expected, isn’t it?” Tarea said.
“Honestly, itâd be strange if they didnât⊔ Yuuma added.
“I thought Van might not have noticed, but clearly that was the case,” Elizabeth chuckled.
“I assumed you were prepared for this from the beginning,” Myuze agreed.
Apparently, Tarea and the others had expected this outcome from the start.
“Tarea, everyone⊠have you all foreseen the future or something?” Vandalieu asked.
“No, itâs more a matter of reflecting on what youâre doing,” Myuze replied.
“What Iâm doing? Myuze, Iâm only changing the shape of the mountain range to separate the Sauron Duchy from the Mirg Shield-Nation,” Vandalieu explained.
“That’s mainly the reason, I think,” Mari said with a smile.
Looking around, Vandalieu saw everyone nodding in agreement with her. To Vandalieu, moving mountains was a major undertaking, but it was something he could do if he exerted his mana. In the past, when crossing the Boundary Mountain Range with Tarea, Kachia, Zadiris, and other Ghouls, he had changed the shape of cliffs to make them easier to climb. And when infiltrating the Hartner Duchy, he had repaired the tunnel that ran through the collapsed part of the mountain range. Moving mountains was just an extension of these actions in his mind.
He knew this effort was impressive, but he hadnât expected it to be so awe-inspiring that it would prompt worship.
(At this rate, I’ll be worshipped throughout the Sauron Duchy, not just along the border, as the god who moved mountains. Please help me, Borgadon.)
Vandalieu instinctively sought guidance from Borgadon, the “Mountain God” worshipped nearby. But in his mind, he saw Borgadon shaking his head, saying, “No, no, itâs too late for that now,” so Vandalieu decided to give up on that idea.
In an impromptu mental conference, he considered attributing the feat to Bakunawa, whom many had likely seen. However, if any issues arose due to the mountain moving, Bakunawa would get blamedâand using his young child as a scapegoat would be the lowest act as a person. So, he dismissed the idea. Ultimately, he decided to try dispersing the credit, hoping that peopleâs reverence would be directed elsewhere.
“For now, letâs name the newly formed section of the mountain range the âArk Moutain Range.â And letâs ask Lady Elizabeth to promote a policy of constructing churches for Ricklent, Zuruwarn, and Botin. We could also create a hot spring town around Periaâs temple and call it âSolda.â”
And thus, the economic recovery plan for the Sauron Duchy was set in motion.
“Van, by the way, is it okay if I create a âsister by bloodâ?? A certain someone asked me to cooperate because they want a body,” Mari asked.
“If it’s someone Mari thinks is trustworthy, that’s fine. …Wait, can you even do something like that?”
“Iâm not sure, but I thought Iâd give it a try. Donât worry, itâs a very trustworthy person,” Mari assured him.
Meanwhile, on the Mirg Shield-Nation side, there was an even bigger panic than along the border on the Sauron Duchy side. There were no gods who knew about the situation beforehand, and the priests didn’t know whether to tell people to flee immediately or to calm them down. People were making sounds like groans, terrified by the sight of the moving mountain range and the huge dragon and centipede flying in the sky.
The sturdy fortresses that the Mirg Shield-Nation took such pride in now faced an unexpected challenge: contending with monsters that poured out from the mountain rangeânewly christened as the “Ark Mountain Range,” formerly known as the Boundary Mountain Range.
While the Sauron Duchyâs army, bolstered by Ghouls, Scyllas, Demons, and Undead, was well-prepared, the Mirg Shield-Nation forces had been caught off guard, leaving them struggling to handle the influx.
As the chaos spread, the gods of Aldaâs faction issued a dire Divine Message to the priests of the Mirg Shield-Nation: “This is but a glimpse of the Demon Kingâs power.” Then they chose to simply observe, letting the people of the Amid Holy Nation absorb the full weight of the warning.
For the people of the Amid Holy Nation, it’s a matter of life and death. However, for the gods of the Alda faction, the true threat isn’t the Orbaume Kingdomâit’s Vandalieu and his Demon Empire of Vidal. Having the path to the Sauron Duchy blocked by mountains is troublesome. However, it’s not a situation where they need to gather forces and defend to the death. Instead, they saw this moment as an opportunity to drive home who the true enemy was.
As a result, the fear and awe of the people living under the Amid Holy Nation’s influence would be directed towards Vandalieu. Alda deemed this acceptable if it united the Amid Holy Nation. He and his allies viewed Vandalieu as merely a reincarnator from another world who had absorbed the Demon King’s power. Though Vandalieu might be worshipped as a god in his Demon Empire and the Orbaume Kingdom, Alda believed he hadn’t truly ascended to godhood.
